Riding With a Bandana: Secure Fit and Pre-Ride Checks

Before riding with a bandana, secure every loose end and check that the fabric cannot obstruct vision, breathing, the helmet strap or motorcycle controls. Test the setup while parked with the full riding kit. If fabric shifts or causes discomfort on the road, pull over safely before adjusting it.

Check clearance with the motorcycle stationary

Keep the engine off while you inspect the outfit. Sit in the riding position, turn your head both ways and look down at the instruments. Check bandana tails against jacket openings, luggage straps and reachable moving parts. Any end that cannot stay contained is a reason to remove the accessory.

Remove the bandana before departure if it repeatedly slips, increases pressure, catches a fastener or needs frequent adjustment. A decorative accessory should not consume attention needed for traffic. Secure spare fabric in a closed bag rather than tying it to a handlebar or mirror.

During a ride, do not reach under the helmet or retie fabric while moving. Find a safe stopping place, park and make the adjustment there.
