How to Make Club Flag Text Read Correctly on Both Sides

Quick answer: Decide first whether the quoted flag is single-sided, reverse-read, or constructed with separate front and back panels. A single-sided print commonly shows a mirrored reverse; correctly readable text on both faces generally requires a construction that supports separately oriented sides. Ask the supplier what the reverse will display, label side A and side B, and inspect a physical sample for direction, opacity and alignment before approving the order.

How to make club flag text read correctly on both sides

Artwork orientation cannot fix every construction. If ink or dye is applied to one piece of fabric and shows through, the reverse view follows the same material and may appear mirrored. If the offering uses two printed faces with backing, each face may be oriented for normal reading—but that must be confirmed for the actual product, not assumed from the word “double-sided.”

A single sided double sided club flag text review should record reading direction and physical construction as separate approval fields.

For the wider flag-order process, see the Custom Motorcycle Club Flags and Event Banners buying guide. This article covers only the side-reading decision.

Record side A, side B, construction and opacity

Define the attachment edge and viewing direction before naming the sides. Lay the sample flat with the sleeve or grommet edge in its installed position. Photograph side A, flip the sample around that same attachment edge, and photograph side B. Colored removable markers can prevent the two views from being mixed up without modifying the artwork.

Question Record Supplier confirmation
What appears on the reverse? Normal, mirrored, blank or separately printed How the quoted construction behaves
How is it built? One layer, backed layer or separate faces Exact construction and finished sample
How much shows through? Observed sample opacity under intended light Available fabric/backing specification
Which edge attaches? Sleeve, grommet or other edge and installed direction Template orientation and hardware layout

Ask how each offered construction displays its reverse

Use plain questions: “Will side B read normally, appear mirrored, or be blank?” and “Are the two sides separate printed panels?” Ask whether a backing layer is included and whether side-to-side alignment tolerances or color differences are documented. Avoid assigning a performance label the supplier does not use.

Motorcycle club print technicians inspect flag backing and opacity against a controlled light source.
Opacity and backing affect how each face looks under real light.

Create a two-page proof: one full page for side A and one for side B. Show the attachment edge, upright direction, finished outline and artwork revision on both pages. Text should be typed normally on each separately printed face; do not manually mirror side-B copy unless the supplier’s process specifically requires that file treatment.

Verify direction on a physical sample

Hang or hold the sample in the expected installed orientation. Walk around it and read from both intended viewing positions. Check that each face is upright, that wording is normal where required, that the backing does not create an unwanted shadow, and that seams do not cover critical content. Review in representative indoor or outdoor light without treating the check as a weather or riding-safety test.

A physical two-side inspection verifies what a screen proof cannot show.

Reject a proof that shows only one face when both are required, calls a reverse-read face “normally readable,” omits the attachment direction, or leaves opacity/backing unspecified. Do not assume that two fabrics of similar weight behave identically.

Save the approved side record

Keep the side-A and side-B files, installed orientation, offered construction, opacity/backing specification, sample ID, proof revision, approver and date. Note exactly what was verified on the physical sample. This record prevents a later reorder from using the right artwork on the wrong face.

Send the completed checks for a custom-order review

Send your authorized artwork, quantities and completed measurement or sample checklist to request a design and quote review for square flags / rectangular flags / hanging flags. Include labeled side-A and side-B files, the required reading behavior, attachment orientation and intended light/display conditions. Request current front/back samples, construction details, opacity/backing specification and the exact template.

Frequently asked questions

Why is text mirrored on the back of some flags?

On a single printed layer, the reverse is the back of the same image. Show-through therefore appears mirrored when viewed from behind.

Does double-sided always mean normal reading on both sides?

No. Terminology varies. Confirm the physical construction and ask exactly what side B will show.

Should I mirror the side-B artwork file?

Only if the supplier’s documented workflow requires it. For separate faces, provide normal-reading files and clearly label their installed orientation.

Why inspect opacity?

Light can reveal the opposite face or backing. A physical sample shows whether that interaction is acceptable.

What should a two-side approval contain?

Both face files, attachment direction, construction, backing/opacity details, sample ID, revision, approver and date.
